Introduction written by Romana Vančáková
Like last year, our cultural exchange with Belgium is continuing quite successfully. This year 15 students from classes 3. A4, 3. B4 and 7. A8 together with two English teachers, Ms. Frecerová Fritzlová and Ms. Vančáková, travelled to the country of delicious waffles, scrumptious chocolate, smelly cheese, strong beer and omnipresent French fries in October and our Belgian friends will be coming to Rychnov nad Kněžnou in April 2024. Here is what one student wrote about the experience:
An Exchange Stay in Belgium
Written by Klára Řízková
Our trip to Belgium started on 15th October at 9 am, when my friend’s father drove us to the airport in Prague. The flight took only about an hour and 15 minutes. In Belgium, more precisely in Kortrijk, we spent a week where we stayed in families of our Belgian partners. They took an excellent care of us and they provided us with a comfortable home in a foreign country.
Every day was full of adventures and interesting activities. On Monday we visited Brussels, on Tuesday we were in a chocolate factory, on Wednesday we went by train to a picturesque Bruges, on Thursday we saw the World War I cemeteries and Friday was a bit freer so we went for a walk around Kortrijk.
The first four days it was sunny, maybe a little bit colder but then it started raining. It kept raining until we headed back home. Because of that we experienced riding bikes in any weather. The rain didn’t concern our Belgian friends the least.
I enjoyed the cultural exchange very much and I would definitely recommend it to everyone who likes travelling. We had a fantastic time there especially at the weekend because we had free time and made plans with our new friends and their families and it was great fun.
