Erasmus+ - Latvia Week 4

As you may remember, Jakub Martin Tomaszewski from 2.A4 spent a little more than 4 weeks in our partner school in Aluksne. Here is what Jakub wrote about his final week in this Baltic state which can boast with a stunning blend of deep-rooted folklore, sweeping natural beauty, and a resilient, forward-looking spirit.

The beginning of the week was quiet. I had history classes where we studied Humanism,

followed by English classes focused on listening skills. Afterwards, I had a meeting with

Gunta, went home, and then went to the gym.

Tuesday, similarly to Monday, was uneventful, with me simply attending Spanish, English,

and Biology classes. After which I studied for both my home school and school in Aluksne.

The next two days were significantly more interesting. On Wednesday, outside of English

and Spanish classes, I also attended a school presentation about the European Union, after

which I was invited by a classmate to watch how the dance club prepares for a concert. That

was fun, unfortunately, I won’t be here for the event, since it’s happening on May 9th.

Then on Thursday, Gunta took me, along with two other classmates, on an excursion to

Cesis Castle. We had a guide who introduced us not only to the history of the castle, but

also to that of the Teutonic order, who were masters of the castle for centuries. Since the

guide spoke English the entire time, I was able to understand everything he said. I honestly

really enjoyed it. Afterwards, we walked around the town, had lunch at a kebab place, and

then went to see a Staburags, which is, for simplicity’s sake, a type of waterfall found only in

Latvia. The excursion concluded with us walking through the ruins of yet another fort near

Cesis.

Friday was spent studying and working on a biology presentation for the following week. I

then went for lunch at a nearby Cafe, then a walk, and finished the day by going to the gym.

The weekend was quiet. On Saturday, I went for a walk, visited the island, including the cafe

located there, and studied.

Then the week ended on Sunday, when I had to spend the entire day inside, since it was

surprisingly snowing. I do have to admit, it was quite boring.
